Longitudinal analysis of electrolyte prolife in intensive care COVID-19 patients

Introduction According to a substantial body of research, electrolyte abnormalities are common manifestation in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients and associated with adverse outcomes. This study aimed investigate imbalances COVID-19 assess their relation mortality.Methods Adult hospitalized the Security Forces Hospital Saudi Arabia from June 8th till August 18th, 2020 were enrolled this retrospective observational study. We examined baseline characteristics, comorbidities, acute organ injuries, medications, levels including sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, bicarbonate, phosphate, magnesium on ICU admission, as well every following day stay, until death or discharge. Patients stratified according survival, differences variables between groups compared using Mann-Whitney’s U test Fisher’s exact test. Longitudinal profiles modeled random intercept linear regression models.Results A total 60 enrolled. Compared survivors, non-survivors had significantly higher sodium phosphate admission death, potassium at lower calcium death. Abnormalities chloride bicarbonate also more frequently observed non-survivors. Furthermore, deceased group, we daily increase levels, decrease chloride. Finally, increased over time, however, not survivor group.Conclusion Admission electrolytes changes course stay appear be mortality patients.
